He was a well-known academic and was awarded the Bharat Ratna. His role as Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936. He was named Vice-Chancellor in 1936. The University of Oxford appointed him as the Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics, and he was selected a Fellow of All Souls College.
He helped put Indian philosophical ideas on the map. He is recognized for creating and shaping the present Hindu culture and connecting India with the West through his philosophical ideas.

As President of India, he took only Rs 2,500 from the salary of 10,000 Rs. He contributed the remainder to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund every month.
