Interested in going solar, but not confident about how to put solar energy solutions into action?

These hi-tech expanses of shimmering glass harness the sun’s energy to generate usable electricity. They convert sunlight into electrical energy either through a mirror or photovoltaic cells. This energy is further processed to generate electricity which is delivered to your home. In this article, we will break down the necessary steps to put your solar panels into action.

Steps To Put Your Solar Panels Into Action

You can install solar solutions on building tops, rooftops, or stand-alone facilities to optimize their efficiency. It is crucial to install your solar energy solutions at a location that is highly exposed to sunlight.

Solar panels work efficiently when directed towards maximum sunlight. So, it is best to remove all unnecessary obstructions that may block the direct passage of sunlight. You may also trace the path of the sun in the sky to ensure no object may cast a shadow over your photovoltaic cells. The working efficiency of your solar panels may suffer due to this shadow.

Step- 1: Mount Installation:

The first step is to install the mounts that will support your solar system. It can flush mounts or roof-ground mounts depending upon the requirement. This base structure provides sturdiness and support to the system. Special attention is paid to deciding the best direction to face solar panels. The best-suggested direction to face your solar panels is south to have maximum sunlight exposure.

Most importantly, the mounting structure should be slightly tilted up to the angle of 18 to 36 degrees. It helps in increasing the conversion efficiency of your solar solutions. Now is the time to fix the solar panels on the mounting structure. Make sure to tightly secure the nuts and bolts. So the whole structure is secured sturdily and lasts long.

Step- 2: Do Electrical Wiring:

The next step in the installation process is to do electrical wiring. Universally, MC4 connectors are installed during the wiring process. So, you should also use MC4 connectors because they can be connected with all types of solar panels. Furthermore, these panels are electrically connected in a series:

Series connection – In a series connection, the positive (+) wire of a PV module is connected to the negative (-) wire of another module. This type of connection increases the voltage supply to the battery bank.

Parallel connection – In a parallel connection, positive (+) to positive (+) and negative (-) to negative (-) modules are connected. In this type of connection, the voltage of each panel remains the same.

Step- 3: Connect Solar Inverter & Solar Battery:

After that, connect your solar energy solutions to a solar inverter. It is installed in proximity to the main panel. You can either install it indoors or outdoors but it works efficiently when stored in a cooler place. Now the positive wire of the solar system is connected to the positive terminal of the inverter and vice versa. The solar inverter is then connected to the solar battery to generate electricity.

Similarly, the positive terminal of the battery is connected to the positive terminal of the inverter and negative to negative. The battery is very important to store electricity backup. It will save you from worrying about the short supply of electricity on cloudy days. Plus, it also helps in reducing solar battery storage system costs during installation.

Step- 4: Connect Solar Inverter To The Consumer Unit:

Thereafter, the inverter is connected to the grid to produce electricity. A generation meter is also installed to monitor the amount of electricity your solar solutions are generating. To make this connection, a normal plug is connected to the main power switchboard. Plus, an output wire is connected with an electric board to supply electricity to your home.

At this stage, you can analyze the performance of your solar system by using your computer or other devices. For instance, you can keep track of the amount of electricity produced at different times of the day. It will help you decide the right time to use your heavy load utilities.

Step- 5: Start & Test Your Solar System:

The final step is to start the inverter by switching ON the main switch of the home. Usually, solar inverters have a digital display to show you stats regarding the generation and consumption of electricity.
